"Something more than words," I replied. "Crystals. I want to send my readers armloads of crystals, some of which are the colors of orchids and peonies, some of which pick up radio signals from a secret city that is half Paris and half Coney Island."

A Floating Brothel

Hilarious!  Read the title of the post again.  What part of 'A Floating Brothel' isn't hilarious and thought provoking?  I sort of wish I hadn't connected with this on an NBC rerun of Parenthood after a night of BINGO and drinking at the local sports bar..... but alas, there was something I needed to learn from this, no?  During my pre-teen years, adults would remind me not to "grow up too fast."  I remember thinking, "Yeah, fat chance."  Today, in a local courthouse, I advised a 12-year-old not to 'grow up too fast.'  She laughed at me and struck a very sassy, adult-like pose.  She and I have the same birthday.  We connect.  And yet, I'm already mourning parts of her lost childhood and mine.

So, how do I reconcile these parts?  I am no longer young... as of yesterday I turned 32 years old.  I am not yet old.  All sorts of things, like 'A Floating Brothel' crack me up.  I hold out hope that my sick sense of humor and good intentions will continue to amuse me and help point me in the right direction.  Yet even now, I hope I don't grow up too fast.  I hope it is not too late.

The Home Stretch

I never intended to leave this blog on hiatus for almost two years, but I had no idea that graduate school would change my life so dramatically. And so it is that I am in the home stretch with about 8 weeks until graduation. The last couple months have been my toughest in a long time, hence, this meaningful photo. I'm believin' and busting ass and anything else I need to do to get through it all. I'll see you on the other side...
